Program Summary:

Oakland University’s CRNA School offers a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nurse Anesthesia. In 2012, the Council of Accreditation awarded them a 10 year re-accreditation. Applicants who gain admission into the Oakland University-Beaumont Nurse Anesthesia Program have the privilege of learning from some of the most respected professionals in the anesthesia community. CRNA Program Requirements:
  • License: current RN license
  • Work Experience: a minimum of 1 year of Intensive Care Unit experience at the time of application. This experience must have occurred within 2 years of applying. Not Accepted: Emergency room, recovery room and step-down units typically do not satisfy the ICU requirement.
  • GPA: 3.0 in nursing program as well as each science course.
  • GRE: satisfactory scores required. Those with GPA’s of 3.5 or higher not required to take GRE.
  • Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    BLS (Basic Life Support)

Prerequisites:

Anatomy
Pharmacology
Organic chemistry or biochemistry (must be within 10 years of applying to the program.)
Complete an undergraduate physical assessment course.
Special requirements: must apply for Michigan nursing license

Interview:

Interviews are held in October. Brief evaluation about critical care nursing knowledge and skills.

Clinical Sites:

In addition to the Royal Oak campus, the Oakland University-Beaumont Nurse Anesthesia Program also has access to the Beaumont Health System Troy and Grosse Pointe campuses as well as 24 affiliate sites. Full-time distance education classes are attended using video conferencing via the Tandberg Education System for students in Kalamazoo, Marquette and Petoskey. The program also enrolls students for the Toledo, Ohio clinical placement. These students attend class at the Royal Oak campus but the majority of the clinical rotations are done in Toledo, Ohio.
