Program Summary:

Hamot Medical Center’s CRNA School offers a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia as well as DNAP degree. CRNA students be introduced to clinical anesthesia methods, which will prepare them to graduate and assume the specialized role of nurse anesthetist. All Nurse Anesthetist students will have the chance to apply research, collaborate with other students and staff, and work effectively with the health care team to provide sound anesthesia care. Graduates of the Hamot Medical Center’s CRNA School, will be eligible to take National Boards, and if they pass, they will receive their Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license. CRNA Program Requirements:
  • License: BSN
  • Work Experience: Applicants to the Nurse Anesthesia Program are required to have a minimum of two years, recent, full-time acute care RN experience prior to applying to the program. The applicant’s critical care experience must demonstrate management of the acutely ill patient with invasive hemodynamic monitoring, ventilatory care, and pharmacologic intervention.
    Accepted: CTICU or SICU (Preferred)
    ER (only considered if obtained in a large trauma center)
    PACU (only considered if obtained in a unit where open heart, cardiothoracic, cardiovascular, or neuro patients recover before admission to a SICU)
  • GPA: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate math and science courses.Cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of undergraduate nursing studies.
  • GRE: UPMC Hamot School of Anesthesia/Gannon University requires applicants applying for enrollment to submit a competitive GRE (Graduate Record Exam) score. Official GRE scores should be sent directly to Gannon University – GRE code 2270.
