CRNA Program Requirements:
  • License: BSN degree from a regionally accredited college or university, and nationally accredited (National League for Nursing (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) nursing program. Current unrestricted license or eligibility for licensure, to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
  • Work Experience: Critical care experience should include a minimum of one year of full-time clinical experience (2,080 hours) within the 2 years prior to application. Accepted: Surgical ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, Neuro-Trauma, Medical Intensive-Care, Cardiac Intensive Care, Pediatric or Neonatal Intensive Care Not Accepted: ER, flight nursing, OR, PACU, ICU step down, radiology/Cath. lab
  • GPA: Grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale based on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework. Science GPA will be weighted
  • GRE: Satisfactory performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). A combined score of 1000 or higher (Quantitative and Analytical) is recommended for the previous GRE exam version. A combined score of 300 or higher is recommended for the Revised GRE exam.*
  • Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    BLS (Basic Life Support)

Prerequisites:

Completion of a “C” or better in following courses:
Basic statistics
General chemistry
Research

Interview:

The CRNA school interview at Western Carolina University provides the applicants a tour of facilities, and a meeting with current students. You can expect a 30 minute interview with the interview committee , which consists of faculty, clinical coordinators, and a senior student. You will be asked a variety of questions to get to know your clinical knowledge. You will also be asked questions that are aimed at getting to know you personally. the entire process lasts approximately 1.5 hours, and they have not been know to give a written test.
